Haikumuse | Summer 2007

by Madeleine Findlay

Free of the trees
the Great Blue unfolds his wings
          over the pond.

First rose
     against a dark background
          pink appetite.

Sun shower –
     the light catches each drop
          of falling rain.

Fledgling heron
     undistracted by onlookers
          fishes alone.

by Tom D’Evelyn

Summer afternoon –
       meditation on a boy
              bouncing a ball.

Dust bath
       for tiny sparrows --
              Sunday chimes.

Humid June--
       only the green grass
              jumps out.

Mosquito,
all you had to do was ask --
              summer evening.

Billowy clouds --
       on the dark waves
              flecks of foam.

Summer noon –
       awakened only
by the scent of the pine.

End of a hot day --
the smell of the rain so much
              more than the rain.

June fog --
chuckle of waves, scream of gulls,
              how expressive.
