Single Island Press

was founded in 2006 by Madeleine Findlay to publish works expressing the qualities found in the work of Bashō, Buson, Issa, and Chiyo-ni. The name of the press is drawn from a haiku by Bashō expressing not only the evanescence of all things but the apperception of being in the fusion of the senses, a moment in which memory fuses with desire and reveals a new horizon. While our backgrounds have prepared us for consulting in various genres of writing, and our clients are working on many kinds of writing—in addition to haiku, we sponsor projects in haibun, essay, memoir, and haiku-related lyric—Single Island Press is dedicated to the vision of man and nature expressed in the art of haiku.

This website expresses the breadth and depth of our commitment. The publications page announces the availability of our books and note cards. The haikumuse page offers seasonal updates of haiku, lyric, and haibun written under the auspices of the Press. The blog addresses issues of concern to the haiku community.
